School Counseling Program

Counseling is a service designed to help students to identify and achieve personal goals. The activities of the counseling program focus on six basic areas:

· Academic Planning

· Personal and Social Growth

· Crisis Intervention

· Transition and Orientation

· Career Education

· Parent/Teacher Support and Consultation

Counselors meet with students individually, in small groups, or for classroom activities in large groups. Students remain with the same counselor throughout elementary school to allow for development of a close and supportive relationship.

Counselors supervise the orientation programs for Kindergarten and new incoming students, as well as assist in organizing programs for all fifth grade students for middle school.

Counselors also serve as resource and support for parents and teachers, organizing and facilitating parent and team conferences, initiating referrals to outside resources and promoting communication between home and school.
